We all love Helen, Watch Dogs: Legion’s Crime Granny

Ubisoft started off its E3 presentation with a very in-depth presentation of Watch Dogs: Legion. The trailer first introduced us to a skull-and-crown-wearing gentleman named Ian, who seemed to have been ripped straight from a Guy Ritchie movie. We also met characters like Jimmy, a drone hacker, and Naomi, an agent of the resistance … but no one cares about those clowns, because we’re all about Helen.

Helen is an old lady who complains about no longer being able to feed the ducks, ruins guards’ shit, and deploys her robo-spiders to get into vents. If Ian is the typical protagonist you might expect from a Ubisoft game in 2019, Helen is his stern grandmother who doesn’t have time for any of that action movie jazz. She’s getting shit done, and I love her.

Watch Dogs: Legion hands-on: one hour hacking my way through London

Watch Dogs: Legion is a highly ambitious title where you can play as one of many agents, recruiting new characters from all over a post-Brexit dystopian London in order to overthrow an oppressive government. Everyone is connected via an AI called Bagley, and you can switch between characters with different skillsets. That’s pretty cool, but it’s also highly redundant, because why would anyone want to play a character who isn’t Helen?

The Internet agrees, and is already creating some primo Helen memes.

Helen is not only the highlight of Watch Dogs: Legion, but she’s one of the highlights of E3. You must protect and defend Helen, because as we saw with poor Ian in the trailer, permadeath is a thing. Don’t worry, Helen. I won’t let anything happen to you.
