Sekiro PC mod adds ‘easy mode,’ more graphical options

A player-created mod for the PC version of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice adds an impressive variety of graphical options to the game, and even includes settings that allow you to craft your own version of an “easy mode.”

Getting the mod up and running is a snap, as long as you’re comfortable fiddling with your graphical settings in general. Here is the basic version of the setup you’ll have to do if you have an Nvidia card, and if these sentences are confusing you might want to hold off on giving this a try:

Use Nvidia Control Panel to set ‘Vsync’ to ‘Off’ and ‘Preferred Refreshrate’ to ‘Highest available’ on a Sekiro Profile. Troubleshoot: delete the (premade) Sekiro profile, add a new profile by stating the full file path to sekiro.exe and try again. If Preferred Refreshrate is missing or game still locks to 60fps see the guide further down on Nvidia Profile Inspector.

The Nexus Mods listing also includes detailed, step-by-step instructions with images if you get tripped up, but I found setup to be a relatively painless affair. And doing so unlocks an abundance of riches. Check out the mod’s interface below:

The mod lets you force any custom resolution that your monitor can handle natively, while allowing you to adjust the game’s field of view if you find the standard setting too restrictive. You can also toggle a mode that displays your kill and death count on the screen if you’re using OBS to stream or capture video, a nifty tool for anyone who wants to share how they’re doing with their audience.

Those features would already make the mod worthwhile, but the real magic comes from the ability to adjust the speed of both the game and the player. If you want help while fighting a boss, just slow them down while increasing your own speed. Suddenly everything is moving in slow motion, except for you.

As the clip below shows, each of these options can be adjusted on the fly, without restarting your game. So if you want to slow down just one enemy to get past a tricky fight, you can do so and then bring the game right back up to full speed.

I was able to get the mod running on my own machine without much fuss, and all the options worked as described. I haven’t been able to test it for more than 10 minutes or so however, so as always it’s best to proceed at your own risk.

This is a solid solution for anyone who wanted an easy mode for Sekiro, without angering people who think FromSoftware itself adding such a thing would be heresy. Or you can ignore the speed settings completely and just enjoy the game with a wider field of view.

The question is now whether FromSoftware will be able to do anything to stop the mod from functioning. “Patches game’s memory, does not modify any game files,” the mod’s description states, “works with every game version, should work with all future updates.”
