Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel in development for Switch, Nintendo reveals

At the end of today’s Nintendo Direct for E3 2019, Nintendo announced that a new Legend of Zelda game is in development: a full sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo was light on details, but a teaser trailer for the Breath of the Wild sequel shows a familiar-looking Hyrule, Link and Zelda exploring dark dungeons, and what appears to be a more horrifying theme. In the trailer, Link and Zelda ride a beast down to an underground lair, where an ancient evil, adorned with what appear to be Gerudo visual cues, is growing. Shortly after, Hyrule Castle appears to quake and then rise from the ground.

The original The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was released for Nintendo Switch and Wii U in 2017. The game gave the Zelda franchise a vast open world to explore, letting players conquer the world of Hyrule at their own pace and using their own solutions.
