Watch a new Nintendo Direct celebrating 35 years of Super Mario

A surprise Nintendo Direct, celebrating the 35th anniversary of Super Mario Bros.1985 launch, premiered this morning. You can see every announcement in the 15-minute presentation above.

Leading the celebration is Super Mario 3D All-Stars, an anthology of optimized versions of Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy for Nintendo Switch. There will be a limited run of Super Mario 3D All-Stars, starting with its Sept. 18 launch and ending March 31, 2021.

There will also be a limited run of a Super Mario Bros. battle royale, called Super Mario Bros. 35, in which 35 players will compete across the game’s levels to be the last player standing, or running. That starts Oct. 1, and is available only to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. It also ends March 31.

An enhanced version of Super Mario 3D World, which launched in 2013 on Wii U, arrives Feb. 21, 2021. Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury will involve co-operative multiplayer gameplay, both online and local. Two new amiibo figurines will launch alongside the game.

This morning’s direct also has more details on the forthcoming Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, in which players control a real-life kart with their Switch in races against others. There will also be a Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. launching in November, which packs three classic games into a Game & Watch handheld case, plus other features.
