Obsidian Entertainment’s isometric role-playing game Pillars of Eternity is coming to the Nintendo Switch eShop on Aug. 8. The Pillars of Eternity: Complete Edition features all the downloadable content and expansions created for the PC game. Pillars of Eternity has already been ported to current-generation consoles like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. No word yet on if there will be a physical release.
Obsidian, best known for its work on games like Fallout: New Vegas and South Park: The Stick of Truth, first brought Pillars to Linux, Mac, and Windows PC in 2015, where it received critical acclaim, helping reinvigorate the isometric RPG genre. The project is credited with innovations in tactics-based fighting, a killer storyline, and award-winning artwork. It was succeeded by Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire in 2018, which is also destined for the Switch.
Pillars of Eternity takes place in the world of Eora, primarily in the nation of Dyrwood, where a curse has been released upon the entire nation known as the Hollowborn Plague, a phenomena in which the children of the afflicted regions are born without souls. It’s up to the player to build a team and use their newly awakened powers to resolve the Hollowborn problem and discover the origins of their newly awakened power.
