Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 release date: Latest Switch news is great for Nintendo

Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 could be perfectly positioned to be a game-changer for Nintendo if this latest Switch game news is to be believed. The latest news surrounding The Legend of Zelda sequel is that Nintendo wants to release the game later this year. It would make for a massive year for the Switch as Nintendo looks to compete with the likes of the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Rumours suggest that Nintendo is aiming for a launch later in 2020 but even those sharing that report are stating that delays are quite possible.

And while missing the year that the new console war starts could be problematic, other recent news suggests that a later timing could still work for the games giant.

One analyst is backing the Nintendo Switch to be a huge success in a new market, China.

As reported by Bloomberg, Pelham Smithers has estimated that the Switch could make a huge splash having recently launched in the region.

As many gamers will already know, China is now one of the biggest markets for video games and has plenty of home-grown content.

And tech equity researcher Pelham Smithers has backed the system to sell millions in its first year on the market.

“While the history of the game console in China is not a happy one, lack of success is not necessarily down to lack of interest on the part of the consumer,” Smithers shared in a note that Bloomberg reported in a post online.

“After all: if China’s consumers didn’t play console video games, the authorities wouldn’t have bothered banning them in the first place.”

Switch hardware sales could go at high as four million units in fiscal 2019 and six million in the following year.

And one thing that ties it to the launch of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 is that Smithers has backed Switch software sales to range between six million and 12 million in the current period, followed by a massive expansion in the period ending March 2021.

So even if Zelda Breath of the Wild does not secure a release date during the current year, 2021 could make for perfect timing.

There were recent reports that Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild is one of a number of games Nintendo is localising for China.

And it would make sense that its sequel would also receive the same treatment, albeit with a later release date.

For now, we know very little about the new Legend of Zelda game past what Nintendo shared during 2019.

There has been nothing new regarding the game, although stuff has been shared on how they made the short trailer for the software announcement.

Fans are hoping for a new update during early 2019, with any Zelda project likely to prove very popular with Switch owners.

There have been rumours that a new Nintendo Direct is being planned for January 2020. And that means a small slither of hope that more Zelda news could be shared.

From what has been shared so far, new third-party announcements are being worked on for it, alongside updates focused on current games.

It will be interesting to see how Nintendo chooses to handle the launch of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 but there’s no doubt it will be a big seller regardless of when it arrives.
