Microsoft’s holiday season isn’t looking so hot for exclusive Xbox Series X titles. With less than a week to go before the launch of the latest Xbox, developer Bloober Team has announced that its intriguing horror title The Medium has been pushed back to January 2021. While a delay of a little over one month, it still stings in a holiday season where Microsoft has seemingly nothing else.
In a message on Twitter, the company explained, “After much careful thought and consideration, today we have made the difficult decision to delay the launch of The Medium to January 28, 2021.” Originally, the game was planned for a December 10 launch and would have complimented Halo Infinite’s release a month earlier. 2020 has different plans, though.
As you can see, the main reason for this delay comes about from complications with development regarding the ongoing COVID-19 situation. Bloober also stated that it is trying to give some distance between it and other big triple-A games, likely referring to Cyberpunk 2077’s release in December.
As long as the team isn’t going into crunch mode, this delay is fine. Reports of limited supply for both the Series X and PlayStation 5 are coming from many retailers and it seems likely that anyone without a pre-order isn’t getting a new console this year. Couple that with PC hardware being hard to come by and even those that wanted new rigs probably won’t have the proper equipment next month to play this.
Bloober can take all the time it needs to make sure The Medium is as solid as possible.
