The Witcher Season 2 Resumes Filming With A Battered Geralt

In June, it was announced that season two of Netflix’s The Witcher would resume filming on August 17 after production was shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Director Stephen D Surjik, however, posted an image from the set on August 5, letting fans know that the hit show was up and running.

Now we’ve been treated to an image of Henry Cavill in the makeup chair, looking bruised and battered. “All of us are COVID cleared and bubbled,” Cavill captioned the image on Instagram, adding that the cast and crew are tested twice a week, and are obligated to avoid contact with anyone outside of the group.

Although we’re not sure what scenes are being filmed at the moment, Cavill’s character, Geralt, has undoubtedly been put through the wringer. “No bald cap this year. Just pounds of 2 types of medical tape and some glue…. Removal is a joy,” he added, giving a shout out to Ailbhe Lemass and Jacqueline Rathore, the makeup artists responsible for the magic on The Witcher.

No bald cap this year. Just pounds of 2 types of medical tape and some glue…. Removal is a joy. Jacqui and Ailbhe here, though, have the deft touch of angels. Jacqui more so an Angel of Vengeance, but that's all part of her charm. Oh and for those who may be worrying. All of us are Covid cleared and bubbled 👍🏻. We get tested twice a week up here in Kaer Morhen! #Witcher2 #CasuallyOpenRobe #CowboyBeard @RathoreJacqui @AilbheLemass

In the first season of the series, we were introduced to the Continent, Geralt of Rivia, Princess Ciri and Yennefer of Vengerberg, who are linked by destiny. Although the show initially follows the three main characters at different points of time, they eventually merge into a single timeline.

Although the plot details of season two are unsurprisingly being kept under wraps, it will be interesting to see if the show follows a more linear structure this time around, or if we’ll be time-traveling this time as well. So far, no release date has been announced, but season two is expected to be released sometime next year. Considering season one was released in December 2019, we can probably expect it sometime before the end of 2021.
