The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Is Bringing Back Ocarina Of Time’s Redeads

One shot in the new The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom trailer suggests that Ocarina of Time's creepiest enemies, the ReDeads, are being brought back.

During yesterday's Nintendo Direct, we got our most in-depth look at Tears of the Kingdom yet, showing off a ton of new features like rail grinding, driving cars, and more. Now that the post-Direct haze has started vanishing, Zelda fans have started diving deep into the trailer to try and find out as much as possible about the game. One early discovery is the return of one of the series' most creepy enemies – the ReDeads.

Towards the halfway point of the trailer, we see a blood moon hovering over Hyrule while (presumably) Ganon sends his forces after Link. This gives us a few scenes of Hyrule being overrun with enemies, including a lineup shot that shows off a few of the foes Link will be fighting this time around.

Although Bokoblins and Lizalfos were to be expected, one of the enemies in the lineup is quite surprising. Judging from the skeletal head and spine, this enemy appears to be a ReDead, a creepy corpse that made its first appearance in Ocarina of Time. ReDeads are mostly known for freezing their enemy (usually Link) in place and then attacking them while frozen, and it seems likely to be the case here.

Since then, the ReDead has appeared in Majora's Mask, Wind Waker, and Tri-Force Heroes, although it's been quite some time since we've seen it in a mainline game, as it skipped Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, and Breath of the Wild.

We only get to see the ReDead for a split second in the trailer, but it makes sense that it'd appear in Tears of the Kingdom. Not only is it a well-known Zelda mob that didn't appear in the last game, but it definitely matches the creepier vibe that the sequel is going for.
