Soon There Will Be No Way To Buy The First Four Metal Gear Solid Games On Current Gen Consoles

Metal Gear Solid is arguably one of the most iconic series of video games in existence. Created by Konami and directed by Hideo Kojima, released on the original PlayStation, the series has enjoyed a very long life, even without Kojima at the helm. However, when Metal Gear Solid 4 leaves PS Now on MAy 17, there will be no way to buy Metal Gear Solid 1-4 on current gen consoles.

As spotted on ResetEra, unless you own an older console or a PC, you won't be able to buy and play four of these historic games. The series has hit 58 million sales, but current gen console owners can't be a part of those figures.

Unfortunately, late last year, Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 got removed from digital storefronts due to licensing issues regarding historical footage used in the games. Konami did state it was going to attempt to renew the licenses, but that hasn't happened yet. Now that 4 is about to leave PS Now, it means they're all gone.

With PlayStation implementing its brand new PS Plus tiers beginning later this month, we could hopefully see the Metal Gear Solid series included in the Preimum tier. This tier promises hundreds of games from the PS1, PS2, PS£, and PSP.

On the ResetEra thread, people who previously bought these games digitally have said they are still able to play them – people just aren't able to buy the games anymore.

In other recent Metal Gear Solid news, a speedrunner beat the first game on extreme mode in just 36 minutes and 23 seconds, beating the old world record by almost 30 seconds. Since then though the record has been taken down again. This time, three seconds were shaved off by dlimes13.

A Metal Gear Solid 3 speedrunner found a way to skip the iconic ladder climb, saving two whole minutes. Unless you're speedrunning, you absolutely shouldn't skip this section. The thematic weight it holds is second to none.
