Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One Launches On PS4 Next Week

Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One is currently one of very few next-gen exclusive titles, having launched for both PS5 and Xbox Series X back in November last year. According to developer Frogwares, the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game were delayed as QA testing on these versions wasn't up to snuff. Finally – over four months after the game first launched – the PS4 version is finally set to release on April 28.

Unfortunately, those waiting for the game to launch on Xbox One will have to go without. As explained by Frogwares in a statement posted to its official Twitter account earlier today (thanks Eurogamer), the Xbox One version of Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One has been "postponed indefinitely" due to the war in Ukraine.

Before the war, the developer was based in Kyiv, an area that has seen heavy fighting over the past couple of months. Frogwares explains that the war has impacted the studio "heavily" and it has had to postpone the Xbox One version of the game as a result.

With the war between Russia and Ukraine not showing any signs of de-escalating, it's pretty likely that the Xbox One version has been cancelled altogether. Still, it's a pretty heroic effort from Frogwares to get the PS4 version out at all given the circumstances, and this is actually a great way to support the devs who are probably struggling a bit at the moment.

If you've never heard of Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One, the game has you play as a young Sherlock Holmes at the beginning of his career as you try to solve the mystery of your mother's murder on the Mediterranean island of Cordona in the late 1880's. The game is currently available on PC, PS5, and Xbox One, or you can wait until April 28 to grab the PS4 version.
