10 Boletaria Set The Tone For All Of FromSoftware's Castle Dungeons

Demon's Souls isn't structured like the other Souls games. Instead of a connected world, Demon's Souls is split up into levels, each with three parts and a boss at the end. Boletaria is the first area you'll visit, and it leaves a strong first impression.

Boletaria captures the melancholic atmosphere of the world while teaching you its mechanics and level design without saying a word. Boletaria is packed with dragons that can burn you alive, hidden NPCs to fight beside you, and branching pathways that make each new playthrough memorable.

9 Anor Londo Is The Most Iconic Area In Dark Souls

Anor Londo is the midpoint for Dark Souls, and it's easy to see why so many players are big fans of it. The area is a massive castle on top of a mountainous region. You have to fight through multiple dungeons just to see it, and it will leave you in awe. The entire area has a golden hue that makes it feel like something from an old legend.

It also contains giant soldiers, flying demons, and a huge blacksmith who can give you amazing upgrades. Plus, Anor Londo culminates in one of the series' most infamous boss fights: Ornstein and Smough.

8 Central Yharnam Welcomes You To Bloodborne

The true Bloodborne starts here. Central Yharnam is the opening area in the game, and it doesn't mess around. There are dozens of hunters, dogs, and crows just waiting to ambush you. Your job is to learn how to tackle waves of enemies at once while making your way through the gothic city.

Central Yharnam has several branching paths that can lead you into the sewers or face to face with the Cleric Beast. It's an overwhelming area at first, but the sheer intricacy of it all is captivating. Just be prepared to tackle some Lovecraftian monsters too.

7 Leyndell Is Elden Ring's Biggest And Most Impressive Area

Elden Ring's open-world design is impressive, but it goes out of its way to drop your jaw to the floor with Leyndell. Throughout your adventure in The Lands Between, you get hints of the Capital. Once you travel north, you're met with a massive city at the base of the Erdtree.

This golden city will see you moving through streets, jumping across buildings, climbing up stairs, tackling numerous bosses, and so much more. This area will take you dozens of hours to explore thoroughly. With multiple entrances into it, everyone's stories of Leyndell will be different.

6 Irithyll Of The Boreal Valley Is Mesmerizing And Terrifying

After you defeat a giant skeleton boss in the depths of a cave in Dark Souls 3, you are rewarded with arguably one of FromSoftware's most gorgeous vistas: Irithyll of the Boreal Valley. This blue city is a pure feast for the eyes. However, it's not just visually striking, as the design has a lot of secret paths, multiple bonfires, roads that lead into other dungeons, and plenty of enemies waiting to stomp you. It's one of Dark Souls 3's best areas, and it even culminates with the reveal of Anor Londo at the end, nodding to those who have played the first Dark Souls.

5 Tower Of Latria Was The Demo For Bloodborne

Demon's Souls Tower of Latria is easily the most frightening area of the game. The first section has you going through a dark prison littered with Cthulhu wizards who can kill you in one shot. The second has you going down winding towers just to be swarmed by human centipedes. Every inch of this area wants to terrify you with Lovecraftian monsters. Like most Fromsoft dungeons, Latria isn't a one-trick pony. There are plenty of NPCs, questlines, items, and traps that demand you pay attention and explore every nook and cranny.

4 The Hunter's Nightmare Is A Clever Reversal

FromSoftware makes great games, but the developer also tends to follow them up with even better DLC. This is true for Bloodborne's The Old Hunters DLC. The first area is The Hunter's Nightmare, which is a reversal on the game's hub area, The Hunter's Dream. In the Nightmare, you'll go through twisted versions of areas from the base game, but you'll be met with old hunters who have powerful equipment. As you make your way through, the area slowly becomes more grotesque and violent, until you come face to face with Ludwig: one of the game's best boss fights.

3 The Ringed City Is A Beautiful Send-Off For Dark Souls 3

The final area in Dark Souls 3 is the DLC area, The Ringed City. Connected to the Kiln of the First Flame, there is a sense of finality to this area. It includes some of the hardest enemies and bosses in the series, varied pathways both visually and mechanically, and some of the best boss fights in the series. In many ways, the Ringed City is a final exam for those who have played the Dark Souls series. You'll traverse a poison swamp, have to avoid angels of death, fight through reskins of previous bosses as standard enemies, and come face to face with Darkeater Midir and Slave Knight Gael.

2 Crumbling Farum Azula Proves That FromSoftware Still Has Plenty of Ideas

When you explore Elden Ring, it's easy to see how areas like Stormveil Castle and the Academy of Raya Lucaria take inspiration from areas in previous Fromsoftware games. However, that doesn't mean that the developers ran out of ideas for locations, as proved by Crumbling Farum Azula.

This city is broken apart, suspended in midair, and surrounded by massive tornadoes and dragons. This area makes great use of your ability to jump in Elden Ring, hiding numerous pathways and elevations just outside of view. Couple that with some of the nastiest dragon fights in the game, and you have a recipe for a stellar dungeon.

1 Research Hall Is A Vertical Dungeon With A Twist

Research Hall is an area from Bloodborne's The Old Hunters DLC and earns its place among the best in FromSoftware's lineup. You'll have to climb your way up the area with multiple paths and enemies that are fighting to bash your skull in. While Research Hall isn't amazing at first glance, it's once you pull the lever that things get more interesting. You are granted access to the staircase that leads to the boss, but the level also changes with new paths and traps to throw you off your game. As such, this area never loses its tension and keeps you on your toes.
