PS5 Architect Mark Cerny Joins The 12% Of People With Returnal’s Platinum

Mark Cerny has unlocked Returnal’s platinum trophy, adding it to what is already a very impressive haul for the designer.

You might think after spending months, if not years designing a game or a console, the last thing someone would want to do is spend even more time with it once it’s done. While that might be the case for some, it isn’t true of Mark Cerny. The PlayStation designer, who helped create the PS5, has played some of the company’s titles so much that he has managed to accrue quite the collection of platinum trophies.

Cerny rarely tweets, usually saving himself for when he unlocks another particularly tricky platinum. Hence why he took to the platform over the weekend to do a little bragging, and rightly so. The latest platinum trophy Cerny has added to his collection is Returnal’s, a very difficult one to obtain with just a 12% completion rate.

“My favorite moment: when I stopped running from the enemies and started hunting THEM down instead,” Cerny tweeted. Not something many of Returnal’s players can boast. The first boss alone has proved to be one of the most problematic for a lot of those who have given the roguelike a try. Cerny has attached a screenshot showing off the moment he truly completed Returnal.

Despite Returnal’s difficulty, its platinum trophy is nowhere close to the most impressive one Cerny has in his collection. The PlayStation architect has also unlocked platinum trophies in Demon’s Souls, Cuphead, and Invisible Inc. That last one has a completion rate of just 0.1% and a lower player count than the others, making it a very impressive get.

Depending on what Cerny has planned for what is going to be a very busy weekend for the video game world, he might have two more platinum trophies by this time next week. Both Final Fantasy Remake Intergrade and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart will be here by Friday. If the former has a platinum trophy, it will likely be a quick one to unlock since the additional episode is only two chapters long. As for Rift Apart, Insomniac has confirmed it can be obtained via just one playthrough if you’re thorough enough.
