PS4 fans haven't been short of news this week, but there's plenty of smaller pieces of news that could have passed the more casual fan by following a huge influx of news about The Last of Us: Part 2.
One of the more barnstorming announcements, as expected, was certainly the reveal of the new PS Plus free PS4 games for October.
Sony took the opportunity to announce their next selection of free PlayStation Plus games a day early during the Sony State of Play livestream.
For those who don’t know, PS Plus subscribers receive two free PS4 games a month as part of their online subscription.
But the two free games coming in October are some right corkers.
The headline game of the month is most certainly The Last of Us Remastered, added in anticipation of the next chapter of Naughty Dog’s epic adventure coming next February.
If you’ve yet to experience this truly unmissable classic, you’re not going to have any excuses for much longer.
On top of The Last of Us Remastered, fans can also pick up MLB The Show 19. That’s right, a baseball game!
Put aside your sporting prejudices, set aside FIFA 20, because the Sony exclusive is by all accounts one of the best games in the sports genre.
We know that it's a personal favourite of former Official PlayStation Magazine editor Ben Wilson. So whilst it's free, what have you got to lose.
We certainly suggest giving it a go.
Both The Last of Us Remastered and MLB The Show 19 will be available to download from PlayStation Store between 1st October and 4th November.
And don't forget, there's still time to download September’s PlayStation Plus titles, which includes Batman: Arkham Knight and Darksiders III.
Two games that are certainly no slouch when it comes to the fun department. So again, spend 5 minutes and claim your freebies before they leave the store on October 1st.
Those who check the site regularly may have also noticed our long list of free games currently available this weekend on the PlayStation Store.
If you didn't see those deals, follow the link above.
But there's another free PS4 update that's also worth shouting about from the rooftops and that's the addition of a multiplayer update to Stardew Valley (FINALLY!).
Once you've downloaded the new 220MB patch for the game and update to the 1.30 version of the game, the online co-op mode will be good to go!
Somewhat bizarrely the update faced delays when going through the certification process. Also it for some reasons failed the process on Xbox One, so for now count your lucky stars it's available on PlayStation.
If that wasn't enough good news for PlayStation fans this week, the team at Sony also announced that they would also increase the number of games in the PlayStation hits range.
For those who don't know, the library of PlayStation Hits is essentially a collection of games deemed so good, that they simply must be played and as such have had their prices dropped to the low low price of €19.99 / £15.99.
This week, PlayStation extended the range by another three games, all PS4 exclusives.
PlayStation hits is already boasting over 40 iconic PS4 games such as Bloodborne, Horizon Zero Dawn and Wolfenstein: The New Order to name just three.
But from October 4th they'll be joined by God of War, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and Gran Turismo Sport.
It seems like even with the possible launch o the PS5 in 2020, it's never been a better time to be a PS4 owner!
