The streams have been crossed when it comes to Nathan Drake actors, as the game’s star tweets some encouraging set pics.
Maybe the Uncharted movie starring Tom Holland will turn out to be good but after seven directors, highly questionable casting, and what seems to be a general disregard for the games’ mythos it’s been hard to stay optimistic.
But somehow, knowing that Nolan North is involved does inspire a bit more confidence.
The prestigious voice actor has tweeted a few photos from the set, all of which seem intended to prove that the film will stick more closely to the games than previously thought.
There’s also been concern at the game’s casting, as while Tom Holland is all very charismatic his age means he’s stuck playing young Nathan Drake, before he met Elena or the rest of his supporting cast (unless the film changes things, which it probably will).
Most controversial is Mark Wahlberg as Sully, who really doesn’t seem a good match for even the younger version of Nate’s avuncular sidekick.
It’s not clear whether Nolan North’s set visit was anything more than a publicity stunt, but it seems likely they’ll give him some kind of background role or cameo.
At the moment, the movie is scheduled for release on March 5 next year, although knowing how film release dates have been lately that’s probably not guaranteed.
The movie has taken so long to make (13 years so far!) that the Uncharted series seems to be over in terms of games. It certainly seems unlikely that original creators Naughty Dog will return to it, although it’s possible Sony may tap someone else to do so in the future.
