No Place Like Home allows you to raise a variety of farm animals, which provide you with several important items. One important animal that you will come across is the pig. Pigs can provide truffles to you; this is a valuable resource that has a few uses.
In this guide, we are going to take a look at how to find pigs for the first time, as well as how to take care of them. Additionally, we are going to look at what you can do with truffles. You definitely want to have a few pigsties on your farm, producing daily truffles for you.
How To Build A Pigsty
Prior to having pigs, you will need to build a pigsty. This buildings' blueprint can be purchased from Harold with the following materials.
- 30x Prepared Meals
- 1x Lettuce
Harold is a vendor found in the village standing next to his house near the lake. You can get here by going through the door shown in the image above. This is located at the back of the large clearing directly in front of where Mark is standing. Be sure to upgrade your drill, so it can destroy rubble before you set out to find Harold.
Once unlocked, head back to your farm to build the pigsty. Doing so will require the items listed below.
- 60x Recycled Material
- 10x Wood
- 8x Rubble
Build the pigsty and then place it anywhere on your farm, and then you will be ready to tame some pigs.
Where To Find Pigs
Pigs are found inside crates scattered throughout the world. In the image above, you can see a locked crate on the left side; inside, there is a pig. Interacting with the crate will open it and free the pig.
To find these pig crates, you may need to destroy trash that is blocking the way. If a hidden pig crate is nearby, you will be able to hear their oinks. Overall, it's a good idea to destroy all the trash in an area anyway, so as you do this, you should find several pig crates.
How To Tame Pigs
To tame a pig, you will need to feed it honey. Once tamed, a heart will appear; press R while looking at the pig to choose a name. After taming the pig, it will also teleport back to your farm.
From the menu where you name your pig, you will also be able to place a hat on it. Although hats are cute, they have no practical effects.
Honey is an item that is produced from the beehive. By placing a beehive on your farm, you will be able to get honey each day to tame pigs that you find.
We recommend carrying honey with you at all times, you never know when you may run into a pig. If you don't have any honey on hand, the pig will not wander too far. You can return to your farm, grab some honey, and then quickly return without worrying about the pig wandering off.
Taking Care Of Pigs
Pigs will produce one truffle each day when taken care of the previous day. To do this, you will need to approach your pig and check out the bubble that appears above its head. The bubble will display what the pig needs to be taken care of. Below, you can check out the icon, and what you should do to meet the pig's needs.
|Icon||What To Do|
|Petting Motion||Show your pig some affection and pet it.|
|Shower||Spray water on your pig to give it a bath.|
|Pet Food Bag||Feed your pig pet food.|
After tending to your pig, a heart will appear above its head, indicating that it will produce one truffle the following day.
If you don't take care of your pig, it will not produce a truffle the following day and you will still need to tend to it. There is no penalty for not tending to your animals, but try to always have pet food on hand. This can be made by cooking with any one item in the kitchen.
How To Get Truffles
Truffles are a food item that can be used to unlock new items at vendors, as well as turned into dishes and Prepared Meals. When placed in the Preserving Machine, truffles can create a hefty amount of Prepared Meals. If you are running low on this jarred currency, we recommend setting up a pigsty dedicated to making truffles that will be turned into Prepared Meals.
That's all there is to know about pigs. Now get out there and tame pigs as you clean the world around you!
