It appears we have found out Nintendo’s plans to keep the sales momentum going behind their successful Switch console.
Plenty of new Nintendo Switch games were revealed during E3 2019, including a sequel for Zelda Breath of the Wild.
But while exclusive content is a major factor in pushing sales, Nintendo has also factored in the release of the next-generation of consoles.
And it appears that the company have their own plans for new Nintendo Switch devices in the coming years.
Recent reports, via the Wall Street Journal, indicate that Nintendo will expand its current handheld range with two new Switch consoles.
One of these will be an upgraded version of the current model, although it won’t provide much more in the way of power.
The other will be a cheaper version of the Switch, offering lower specs but making it a more comfortable purchase to make.
It’s unclear when these new models will be released; however, there is a chance they could be announced very soon.
Production may have already started on both, meaning they could be ready to ship before the end of the year.
The holiday season would be the best time for a new console release, bundled with the upcoming Pokemon Sword and Shield games.
But without an official confirmation from Nintendo on the subject, it’s hard to tell when the new consoles will be hitting shelves.
Current owners aren’t expected to buy the new models but an increase in the audience will only make the console brand stronger in the eyes of third-party publishers.
It was recently revealed that The Witcher 3 is being ported to the Switch, another sign that the Nintendo handheld is heading in the right direction.
But fans will also be very glad to hear about the new exclusive projects coming to the Switch console in the future.
Nintendo never made it a secret that they were working on a sequel to Zelda Breath of the Wild.
But now we have confirmation that a new Legend of Zelda game is coming that feeds directly from the success of BOTW.
Predicting when the next Legend of Zelda game will arrive can be a fool’s errand, especially considering the delay of the last one.
But based on the growing success of the Switch console, Nintendo will want to ship this one as quickly as possible.
The original Zelda Breath of the Wild was seen as key to the early success of the Switch. So another game in the series can only help to strengthen it further, with plenty of mystery still surrounding the project.
Fans believe they have found the first concrete clues on what the game’s storyline could contain. Zelda could play a much bigger role alongside Link, with co-op heavily hinted at in the recent trailer.
But there are also connections being made with the Twilight Princess game from the GameCube. Fans believe that the villain Zant from the previous Legend of Zelda title will play a role in Breath of the Wild 2.
Music featured in the BOTW 2 trailer appear to share similarities with the Twilight Princess. Fans have been playing it backwards and getting definite vibes from some of the other titles in the franchise.
Gamers have also pointed out symbols and lighting that seem to be connected to the Twilight Realm, which could point to a big return.
We know that the company likes to drop teasers for their biggest games, so there is nothing currently ruling out the return of Zant.
Nintendo isn’t expected to drop more news about Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 for a while, so fans will have to keep sharing their own theories on what is coming next.
