Marvel's Avengers players will come back after new content insists developer

As Avengers players grow disinterested with the game, Crystal Dynamics is hoping that new content and characters will bring them back.

It’s only been a month since Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics’ Avengers game released and, despite an otherwise successful launch, interest has been waning since.

Considering Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics intend for the game to have a years-long lifecycle, a dwindling player base is the last thing they want.

When asked about this by Kotaku, Crystal Dynamics head Scot Amos reiterated that new content is coming soon, with an update scheduled for next week.

‘… we have a number of new content pieces coming in the weeks ahead including: a totally new War Zone mission type called Tachyon Rifts, a new Outpost that’s a jumping off point for new story missions in the future, and AIM’s Cloning Lab, which requires a coordinated high-level group of four players to beat with new top-end loot rewards for finishing it.

‘And in each of these updates we do tuning and bug fixing to enhance the overall experience.’

He also mentioned the two additional characters, – Clint Barton and Kate Bishop aka the two Hawkeyes – who will have their own stories that continue after the events of the main campaign. He didn’t provide a release window for them, though.

Despite the dip, with less than 1,000 people playing at the time of writing on PC according to Steam Charts, Amos isn’t worried and believes the upcoming content will be enough to bring players back.

‘We are confident that we’ll see PC players (as well as those on Xbox One and PlayStation 4) return to the game as we add exciting new late-game content and demonstrate that we continue to be focused on improving the game.’

Avengers is due to get extra characters beyond the Hawkeyes, with PlayStation owners getting Spider-Man as an exclusive, but the lack of a roadmap means fans have no indication of when any of it is coming.

Avengers is available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia. It will release for Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 later this year.
