Marvel’s Avengers Launches With Over 80 Co-Op Missions, Some Of Which Take 90 Minutes

If you want replayability, Marvel’s Avengers has you covered. Apparently, there will be over 80 co-op missions at launch—some of which will take an hour and a half to complete.

These missions are scattered around what will be called “War Zones.” Depending on what you want to do on any given day, you can embark on a short five-minute mission—Drop Zones—or you can take on missions that are much, much longer, which we assume are called the “Iconic Mission” chains.

In an interview with our editor-in-chief, Kirk McKeand, War Zone director Philippe Therien said that one of the things they wanted to do was to make sure you can do what you want to do. The War Zones don’t need to be played in any particular order and you can skip around as much as you want. If you want to gather resources, you can do that. Or, if you’re in the mood for a new outfit, you can find a mission that will reward you with that. The idea is that the War Zones have enough variety to fit every play style out there.

That being said, if you’re on the hunt for easter eggs, or are a completionist, the War Zones have missions for you too. In fact, Therien said that if you complete a special event in a mission called Stark Realities, you will unlock a large open Tundra to explore. Oh, and those “Iconic” missions? Therien used the word “chains” to describe them, so we can safely assume that these are going to be long back-to-back missions that ultimately end with, well, something iconic. Therien’s PR team wouldn’t let him say what’s at the end of those, but it’s probably worth seeing.

With 80 missions at launch, there is going to be a lot of content to get through before we reach the first update to the game—which will probably bring even more missions to the scene. So, your casual gamer may not see everything that there is to see for a while. Regardless, the ability to play the missions at your own speed and at will is something that definitely helps make sure you keep coming back to the game. Now the question is, do you have at least an hour and a half to get to the end of some of these missions?
