At The Game Awards 2019 , Microsoft and Xbox announced a surprising new title that no-one was expecting to see: Senua's Saga: Hellbade 2.
Following on from the events of the first game, the sequel will continue to follow eponymous hero Senua as she continues to fight survival in a dark, intimidating Medieval world.
The first game in the series, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, is a BAFTA-winning third-person action game that revolved around small-scale combat and visual puzzles.
Melina Juergens will be returning to the role of Senua for the game, and it looks like we're once again going to see the game really focus on stunning performance capture – something that was a headline feature in the first title.
You can see the reveal trailer for this incredible game below – but what consoles will you be able to play it on at launch? Here's what you need to know.
Senua's Saga: Hellbade 2 – Which platforms will it launch on?
Phil Spencer has revealed that Hellblade 2 is "in early development for the Xbox Series X".
Right now, it's not clear whether games that launch on the next-gen console will also be playable on the Xbox One family of consoles, but we're going to go out on a limb and say they probably won't be.
So you'll probably be unable to play the game on Xbox One X, Xbox One S and the Xbox One launch model.
Thanks to the game being developed by Ninja Theory – a studio which is now part of Microsoft Worldwide Studios – it's practically certain that we won't see this game launch on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
That said, we are seeing Microsoft start to tentatively publish its games on other platforms (see: Cuphead, Minecraft), so it's not impossible that we'll see the title arrive on a PlayStation console… just very, very unlikely.
