How To Catch Kyogre And Groudon During Pokemon Go’s Hoenn Collection Challenge

Pokemon Go’s Hoenn Collection Challenge is well and truly underway, and we’ve been on the ground collecting some Pokemon as soon as it began – I was lucky enough to grab a Nosepass with little trouble. But the Pokemon that are causing trouble are Kyogre and Groudon, and the legendary beasts of the Hoenn region. You will find your research tasks have given you a couple of extra challenges to catch these creatures during the Hoenn Collection Challenge, and that’s not as easy as you might hope.

You may have caught these Pokemon in the past, but they’re truly brutal to catch when it’s not part of your weekly research task rewards. If you want to pick up a couple of Water-type Kyogre and a pair of Ground-type Groudon before this event is done, then you will need to follow the tips in this guide, and you will come out the other side with everything you need to know and more. Just read on below…

Preparing To Catch Kyogre And Groudon During The Hoenn Collection Challenge In Pokemon Go

Right, so it’s time to prepare your equipment for the task ahead, as catching these two legendary creatures won’t be easy, and there’s only one place for them to reliably appear – within raids. Yes, raids, which means you’ll either need to uproot yourself from your sofa (during a pandemic, no less) and go to the nearest gym, or you will need to get yourself a few Remote Raid Passes.

Here’s a stroke of good luck though: you will be able to collect three Remote Raid Passes from the in-game shop for free, assuming you currently do not have any. You may only carry a maximum of three at a time, so if you already have one you will not be able to collect more. Use these passes to get access to raids while sitting at home, and you will be able to participate in these raids to capture Kyogre and Groudon.

Catching Kyogre And Groudon In Pokemon Go

Now that you have everything in place, you should know what strategies to adopt. For Kyogre you should focus on attacking with electric and grass type attacks to weaken it quickly, and for Groudon grass and water type attacks are incredibly effective. You will need at least a couple of partners to take on this raid with you, even if you have top-level Pokemon at your disposal.

Once you get the opportunity to capture them, you shouldn’t go easy on the berries. Golden Razz Berries are very useful for capturing raid event Pokemon, and you should do your best to hit curve ball throws, in addition to Excellent throws. An Ultra Ball, Golden Razz Berry, and Curve Ball Throw is essentially the ultimate combination and will give you a better chance of capturing the Pokemon than anything else. Other than that, it’s all down to luck, so good luck!
