Gotham Knights could be coming out in just a couple of weeks. Someone seems to have spotted a boxed copy of the game on the shelves of a retailer in Ireland with a sticker that says “Coming Soon!” followed by the date April 24. This remains a rumor on the other hand as the sticker has been explained by some as showing a placeholder date.
This comes in the wake of a closed beta for Gotham Knights briefly appearing on Steam. While the playtest was quickly removed from Steam, details about the closed beta remain available on SteamDB, an unaffiliated platform which records information about releases on Steam. The most interesting thing to note is the file size which comes to a total of just under 82.5 GB. Their assertions remain unsubstantiated, but a couple of Reddit users are claiming to have played the closed beta before it was removed.
Gotham Knights is currently being developed by the studio behind Arkham Origins, Warner Brothers Games. This represents the first full title from the developer in almost a decade. Warner Brothers Games however worked on the downloadable content for the most recent entry in the Arkham series, Arkham Knight. While no release date for the game has yet been announced, Gotham Knights is expected to launch at some point in 2022.
The game will be a continuation of the Arkham series, picking up where Arkham Knight left off. “Batman is dead,” Warner Brothers Games notes. “A new expansive, criminal underworld has swept the streets of Gotham City. It is now up to the Batman Family; Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood, and Robin; to protect Gotham, bring hope to its citizens, discipline to its cops, and fear to its criminals.” Players will do everything from “solving mysteries that connect the darkest chapters in the city’s history to defeating notorious villains in epic confrontations.”
