There have been unverified reports circulating the internet recently about an incoming God of War 5 reveal alongside an upcoming State of Play show from Sony.
The next game from Sony Santa Monica was allegedly going to be shown at an the next, unannounced State of Play – rumour has it the game would be have a more photorealistic art style and would have been announced a new game from a classic PlayStation IP.
That all sounds a bit too good to be true, right? Well, apparently it was.
In a tweet stating "Looking at some of the news over the last 24 hours", Cory Barlog – director of the previous God of War title and Sony Santa Monica boss– posted a Transformers meme suggesting that he was laughing at the news dismissively.
We know the game is already in development – there have been job listings posted over the past year or so that suggest that – but Sony and its Santa Monica Studio don't seem ready to announce the new game just yet.
Earlier this year, Kim Newman, a narrative animator over at Sony Santa Monica, tweeted an image in which the staffer is wearing a mo-cap suit, hinting that the studio is back at work on a new project, too.
The tweet states: "Feels good to be back in the suit. @SonySantaMonica".
Though the words 'God of War' are nowhere to be seen in the post (below), it stands to reason that work is being carried out on the sequel to the 2018 reboot of the series.
We'll update you as we hear more about the unannounced project.
