Fortnite PS5 and Xbox Series X upgrades will drop on launch day

The next gen Fortnite releases will share a number of upgrades, though some will be specific to certain consoles.

Fortnite was one of the first games confirmed for the next generation of consoles but, at the time, no one really knew what that meant.

Now, ahead of the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5’s respective releases, Epic Games has detailed exactly what upgrades will be included with the next gen versions, which will release on the same day as the consoles themselves.

Firstly, all versions will have enhanced visuals and physics, faster load times, and improved split-screen, which will run at 60 frames per second.

Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 owners will get to enjoy 60fps at 4K resolution too, though this isn’t available for the Xbox Series S due to it being less powerful.

However, Epic Games has clarified that Fortnite will run at 60fps and a 1080p resolution on Xbox Series S and most of the visual upgrades will be available too.

The PlayStation 5 version will have a couple of unique features of its own. Fortnite will take advantage of the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback to simulate weapon recoil and make it feel like you’re actually holding a weapon.

And with the PlayStation 5’s Activities feature, you’ll be able to select your preferred game mode straight from the PlayStation 5’s home screen.

Epic also adds that players upgrading from their Xbox One or PlayStation 4 can carry over all their progress, including cosmetics, to their respective Xbox Series X/S or PlayStation 5 and cross-play will continue to be available.

Lastly, as an extra reward, all players can get a free Throwback Axe Pickaxe, the original default pickaxe from Fortnite’s very first season, for a limited time, starting from November 4.

Fortnite will release for Xbox Series X/S on November 10 and for PlayStation 5 on November 19.
