Kojima Productions offered a new look at Death Stranding today, as well as a release date. The PlayStation 4-exclusive open-world action game will be released on Nov. 8, 2019.
Death Stranding’s new trailer runs nearly nine minutes and offers a look at a wide variety of gameplay, from traversing new environments, to motorcycle riding, to gunfights against otherworldly soldiers, to new storylines and new characters. You can watch the new trailer above.
Alongside the release date and trailer, Kojima released a new statement about the themes of Death Stranding and its gameplay:
People have created “Walls” and become accustomed to living in isolation.
“Death Stranding” is a completely new type of action game, where the goal of the player is to reconnect isolated cities and a fragmented society. It is created so that all elements, including the story and gameplay, are bound together by the theme of the “Strand” or connection. As Sam Porter Bridges, you will attempt to bridge the divides in society, and in doing create new bonds or “Strands” with other players around the globe. Through your experience playing the game, I hope you’ll come to understand the true importance of forging connections with others.
Hideo Kojima first unveiled Death Stranding at E3 2016, just a few months after confirming his departure from Konami and establishing a partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment. Kojima Productions has since released multiple teasers and trailers for Death Stranding, at events like E3, Tokyo Game Show, and The Game Awards, although many of them have offered opaque, sometimes bizarre insights into its gameplay and world.
Death Stranding stars Norman Reedus as Sam Bridges, a courier who must explore a dark open world transformed by a mysterious phenomenon known as the Death Stranding. Sam, and players, are tasked with reuniting the game’s shattered world by forging new connections. The game also features Mads Mikkelsen, Léa Seydoux, Lindsay Wagner, Troy Baker, and Guillermo del Toro.
