Cyberpunk 2077’s actual PS5 version won’t be out till next year, but the PS4 game can be played on the next gen hardware.
Despite insisting that it wouldn’t happen again, CD Projekt Red has confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed once more, this time until November.
Some new details have emerged in the meantime courtesy of an investor’s call, the contents of which have been compiled on ResetEra.
One particularly interesting detail is regarding the next gen upgrades. While Cyberpunk 2077 is currently scheduled to release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, it has been confirmed that it will come to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X as well.
Thanks to the Microsoft’s Smart Delivery system, Xbox One players will be able to obtain the Xbox Series X version for free, but Sony has no such offer.
However, CD Projekt Red has stated that PlayStation 4 copies of the game can be played on the PlayStation 5, which seems to suggest that it will be one of the available backwards compatible titles.
Not only that, but the game will receive a free update which will improve the visuals on the PlayStation 5.
At the time of writing, details on the PlayStation 5’s backwards compatibility are scarce, with Sony only stating that the ‘top 100 PS4 games’ will be available at launch, none of which have actually been confirmed.
The Xbox One version, however, will automatically be forwards compatible with the Xbox Series X, as Microsoft has confirmed that its new console will be fully backwards compatible with all Xbox One games.
As for the actual next gen upgrades, we already knew they wouldn’t be out this year to coincide with the releases of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, but CD Projekt Red is aiming to release them in 2021.
It’s been described as a ‘more robust update’ and will be offered for free to anyone who already bought the game on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Cyberpunk 2077 will release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on 19 November.
