Crysis Remastered Is Completely Broken On Xbox One X

Crysis is one of those games that goes out of its way to push the limits of what’s possible in the graphics department. It seems that it’s finally gone too far, at least as far as one platform goes, because Cyrsis Remastered is completely broken on the Xbox One X.

When the remastered game was announced, it got a lot of people excited about how this new version of the game would ride the line between breaking GPUs and still providing a smooth experience. Of course, if you wanted to step beyond the line, you could do so with the “Can It Run Crysis” mode on the PC—which offers unlimited graphics settings. Console gamers, on the other hand, were limited to just three graphics modes.

One of those modes—promising raytracing—is completely broken, however. In a recent tweet from Game Tripper, we got a look at just how broken this mode is. Anyone who’s ever experienced a computer crash that spams infinite windows on your screen will get flashbacks from the footage. Almost immediately, the display breaks and gets pushed to the upper left hand of the screen. Three seconds later, everything else breaks and the game becomes completely unplayable—even when you’re grading on a very forgiving curve.

It’s hard to tell exactly what’s happening here, but it seems as though there is something fundamentally wrong with the way the raytracing mode works on the One X. It would be easy to blame the console here, but there could also be something wrong with the emulation contained in the game’s code that is causing this kind of crash. As of this writing, Crytek has not publicly mentioned the problem.

When Crytek announced that Crysis Remastered would be available with raytracing capabilities, they said that they had tested it on Xbox One X and the PS4 Pro. Their public demonstrations even ran on the hardware. Perhaps there was something that was missed or a patch that broke the game. Whatever is happening here, it’s obviously not something that you want for your game. Fingers crossed that this is something that can be fixed and the mode isn’t simply removed.
