Activision claims that its newest Call Of Duty game has set a franchise record after its first few days on sale.
Despite a tumultuous launch plagued with server issues that made even offline play impossible for some, Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War already looks to be a considerable success.
In a statement to GameSpot, Activision’s EMEA managing director Anna Malmhake says that Cold War’s launch on Friday set a new franchise record in terms of first day digital sales.
‘Friday’s release of Black Ops Cold War set a new record as the highest first day digital sales worldwide in franchise history. Thank you to Call of Duty players everywhere.’
‘Launch is just the start. This new title is releasing into the largest and most engaged Call of Duty community ever’, she added.
‘We look forward to delivering an incredible amount of free post launch content, events and support for the entire community as Black Ops Cold War evolves just as we did last year following the release of Modern Warfare.’
Activision has not provided any exact data about the game’s sales, but it’s unfortunately extremely rare for any publisher to reveal sales numbers
Cold War’s success isn’t that surprising, given its release on multiple platforms (including the brand new PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles), the ongoing success of the Call Of Duty franchise, and the popularity of the Black Ops series.
However, the game has drawn plenty of ire from a number of players. When it launched, many claimed to have refunded it shortly after due to the aforementioned server issues and generally being dissatisfied with it.
Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC.
