Xbox Game Pass comes to iOS in spring 2021

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate users will be able to play games via the cloud on their Apple iOS devices come spring 2021, Microsoft announced Wednesday. The service was previously available on mobile for Android devices only.

Microsoft said the service will be available on Apple iOS through the mobile web browser, circumventing the need for the App Store. Previously, Apple said cloud-based gaming services like Project xCloud would be required to link individual games for purchase from their own App Store pages, something Microsoft called “a bad experience for customers.” Apple opened up its operating system to game streaming — albeit with major hurdles — in September.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will also be available on Windows PC via the Xbox app and browser, according to a post on the Xbox Wire.

In that post, Microsoft also announced it’ll bring cloud gaming via Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to more countries, including Australia, Brazil, Japan, and Mexico.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and its cloud gaming service launched on Sept. 15. The membership costs $14.99 a month for access to the massive game library and cloud gaming services.
