New Xbox Experience rolling out to Xbox Insiders

On Tuesday, Microsoft began rolling out its new Xbox Experience — an upgraded user interface that’ll be consistent between Xbox platforms, including mobile apps, Xbox Game Pass on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. Microsoft revealed details on the new UI last week, but beginning Tuesday, players will began seeing it for themselves.

Portions of the new design are available this week, but Microsoft will continue updating the layout and its features until the Xbox Series X is released in November. Microsoft said that players shouldn’t expect a “drastic” change on Xbox One, but that the update brings the UI in line with “other experiences on the PC and mobile devices” — like rounded tile edges and updated fonts.

Microsoft also said players can soon begin customizing their experience with profile themes, including ones from Xbox Game Studios games. (They will also be available on the Xbox app for Windows PC, too.)

The last feature discussed in Tuesday’s announcement is the ability to sign on to multiple devices at the same time — though players on a single account can only play games on one device at a time to ensure that progress, saves, and achievements “stay up to date and synced.” But it does mean that you can, for instance, watch a movie on your Xbox console while playing a game via the cloud, on your phone.

Microsoft said there’s “more to come” as it approaches the Xbox Series X launch in November. The company hasn’t announced an exact release date for the next-generation console.
