Team BDS has won the RLCSX EU Spring Regional 1, bringing their total wins to seven out of nine European events, including two majors. They are also the first team to win three RLCSX events in a row.
The European powerhouse has had an unprecedented run so far, dominating their peers as they qualified for the world championships before the spring split even began. Team Vitality, who fell to Team BDS in the final, now need 11 points to qualify for the world championships. They will likely claim those at the next regional, even if they finish last.
Team BDS does not fear a LAN environment
Team BDS has reigned supreme since the European RLCSX began. The debutants have won five regional events and two majors, proving that no one else can get close. All of this is online, but Alex “Extra” Paoli is not afraid of a live environment.
“I don’t think anything will change,” Extra said during the post-match interview. “I think we’ll play good in both. M0nkey and Marc didn’t play many LANs, but I did, so I have the experience to bring them up.”
Extra remains humble while his team wins regional after regional and believes that North America’s top four can all pose a threat to the undisputed best team in Europe. It’s impossible to tell if Team BDS can continue their domination against international talent, especially at an in-person LAN.
The European leaderboard is taking shape
With Team Vitality nearly qualified, the European leaderboard that determines who goes to the world championships later this year is beginning to show who has what it takes. Top Blokes, who fell early this regional, are sitting in third place at a fair distance below Team BDS and Team Vitality.
Vodafone Giants are on the Blokes’ heels, but there is still a race going on for the teams below top four. A lot can happen in the remaining two regional events and spring major, so everything will come down to who can truly step it up in the tail end of the regular season.
The RLCSX continues next week in North America and will run throughout March, April and May.
