ESL One Germany is due to begin next week on the 5th of October with 16 teams from Europe and CIS entering the competition for the tournament title and a share of the $400,000 prize pool.
Despite the generous prize pool for an online tournament and the fact that the event is held for what is regarded as the most competitive region, ESL One were faced with a couple of challenges in securing a 16 teams lineup. The initial invite list included 12 squads, which would have been joined by four more competitors coming from qualifier rounds.
However, soon after the invites were revealed, Natus Vincere, one of the directly invited teams signed the FlyTooMoon roster on a trial basis, who was also directly invited to the tournament, which meant that one spot became free. Virtus.pro were also supposed to participate, but they decided to withdraw after they benched their entire main team citing unsatisfactory results.
With two openings on the invitee’s list, ESL One extended the qualifier slots from four to five and invited Cyber Legacy to take VP’s spot in the tournament.
Winstrike, Yellow Submarine, EXTREMUM, Tempo Esports, all representing the CIS region, along with the European stack mudgolems, prevailed in the qualifier rounds and will complete the 16 team lineup for the event.
ESL One Germany is set to keep the teams and the fans busy for a whole month, starting on the 5th of October with a five round Swiss group stage and closing on the 1st of November at the end of a double elimination playoff bracket.
